I don't really have a whole lot to put here as of yet; I'm sure I'll find more pretty soon. For now you'll just have to make do with the story of my life and a few little quirky things about me. I'll sprinkle a few interest-related pictures and strips throughout my bio just so your eyes don't glaze completely over.

I was sucked into this whole LJ business by
bluemanatee, who has been a very good friend of mine for a few of years now. I greatly enjoy journaling and have notebooks full of my thoughts going back to probably third grade or so. I love pouring out my feelings and musing about various issues. Not to mention what happened to me on any particular day, but there won't be as much of that as you might expect. So sorry, for people who like that kind of thing. :)

I was born in New York City, which in my opinion is probably one of the best, if not the best, city in which to grow up. I had so much fun there, running through Central Park and taking horse and carriage rides and doing all the attractions and even just walking the streets and seeing all the eclectic people around me.

I am Deaf. That's not the same as being deaf (with a small d). It means that I'm part of a worldwide Deaf community and culture. Although I'm not as active in it as some people, I do greatly respect those who are. I hope to attend Gallaudet University some day. I am grateful to my parents, both hearing, for learning to sign and encouraging me on my path every step of the way.

For those who don't know, this is a picture of the Tribute to Light memorial set up on Ground Zero six months after the attacks. Most of you have probably seen it; many photos portray it as it looked from across the Hudson River. Two beams of light in the exact footprints of the Twin Towers. This shows what it looked like from Ground Zero itself.
I lived in New York until about three years ago. My daddy worked at a financial company and had his office in the North Tower of the World Trade Center. On September 11, 2001, he kissed me and Mom goodbye as usual and headed off to work. He was probably at his desk by 8:30 and I know he would have been working at 8:46 when the airplane hit. I'd been to his office before and I knew all his coworkers and his routine. Mom and I kept waiting for him to come home but a few weeks later we received word that he had died that morning.
I think that made us both reevaluate our priorities. After we had grieved, of course. I went through a pretty severe bout of depression and I am still on medication today to control it. I know Daddy is with me every day, looking down on me. I love him so much. He was my big teddy bear; he loved to wrestle and he'd hug me tightly at least once every day. He taught me so many things and I miss him very much.

Mom and I both decided that we needed to leave New York. Much as we loved the city, it wasn't right for us anymore. Everything reminded us of Daddy and it got to be just too much. So Mom found a house for us in a small town in Ontario, Canada and we have lived there ever since 2002. I love it here and Mom and I have grown so much closer. But I still miss my Daddy.
We've found some wonderful friends here. Including, for me,
bluemanatee, who has always been there since I met her three years ago. Even though she has now moved, we still keep in contact and I consider her my closest friend.
Umm, let's see, that's about it for my life, now what about my interests? I'm a very artsy girl; I love to do crafts and make jewelry -- I'm not totally happy unless I'm elbow-deep in beads and glue and construction paper. I also greatly enjoy cooking, and have inherited a talent for it from my mom. We spend many happy hours in the kitchen together (which, in our new house, is LOVELY) concocting all kinds of things.
I love to read, and I love to discover new books I can curl up with. My aspirations for after I finish school include becoming a veterinarian, getting married, and having several children. I love kids and animals.
Right now I have a position volunteering at the Humane Society. I am also active in my local church (I assist in teaching Sunday School) and community. I feel I have integrated really well into Canada and I love Canadians. I sometimes wish I still lived in New York, but at least we're able to go back and visit every so often (Gram and Gramps, Daddy's parents, still live there).
Welcome to my journal! I hope you have fun reading what I write, and I want to make lots of new friends here!
